Tom Cruise and Kenneth Branagh’s new film, Valkyrie, to be released in August 2008, is the subject of an on-going row, not least because of Tom Cruise’s personal membership of the Church of Scientology. Cruise plays Count Claus von Stauffenberg and Kenneth Branagh is Henning von Tresckow. Both men were doomed by their brave and desperate attempt to assassinate Hitler in his command centre – the “Wolf’s Lair”.
